It was a very pleasant morning at Mt. Pleasant! There was a nice little group of hawks that came up together. 5 RED-TAILS and 2 RED-SHOULDERS within a couple minutes. A KESTREL was sitting atop a dead branch. If we were concentrating on hawks today might have been a banner day. A lovely SAPSUCKER flew into a dogwood just a few feet away from where we were standing. We also saw him try to eat dogwood berries. Quite a few RUBY KINGS were about with a couple GOLDENS interspersed here and there. A tardy HOUSE WREN and a secretive WINTER WREN were found. Also tardy were a WHITE-EYE VIREO and a lady YELLOWTHROAT. Numerous PALMS and MYRTLES were in evidence. BLUEBIRDS were delightful and 5-6 HERMIT THRUSHES were feasting on wild grapes. 5-6 TOWHEES were about and we'll see if they overwinter, there is a good supply of food. Some CHIPPING flew over when we first arrived. 3 different LINCOLNS were seen with incredible close looks in great light. FIELD were plentiful but SAVANNAHS were down to 20 birds. SONGS and SWAMPS were everywhere and WHITE-THROATS have exploded in numbers. A few WHITE-CROWNS were left but they seem to have pulled out for greener(and multiflora filled) pastures. Bonnie Ott
