Just a thought, and probably not a very good one - but when William O. 
Douglas wanted to save the C&O Canal, he challenged editors of the major 
papers and business leaders to walk it with him, so they could see for 
themselves what they were destroying.

Any possibility of inviting the decision makers to an early morning bird 
watch at the maintenance yard (recognizing that the major migration has 
passed), but get all of us out there with them AND call the press.
