Hi All: Raptors later- first, what I suspected to be 2 male Brewers Blackbirds. Seen from ~150` away, perched 40-50` up in snag, I was looking west. First impression was of overall dark ( not a flat black, but glossy looking ) blackbird with a startlingly white looking eye ( compared to Rusty BB ). Too small for grackle, tail straight and square tip at end, larger than cowbird. Bill dark and pointed, not stubby and appeared to be marginally shorter than that of Rusty Blackbird ( had just been able to study a flock of ~12 at close range - 30`, foraging at eye level ) Of course the difference in distance of observation could account for this latter impression. There was no hint of brown or rust coloration anywhere on the supposed Brewers. As they flew away, they gave loud " check " notes that sounded identical to species voice on my Peterson CD Rom. Unfortunately, no other observers where with me to confirm, would appreciate any input. This would be a new county/MD bird for me. Also this am at 8:30, a lovely Swainson Thrush viewed close range feeding on wild grape vine. Offered a nice profile of uniformly brown uppers, buffy eyering and buffy coloration to cheek extending to side of neck/upper breast. A new county bird for me as well. Also Tree Swallow, Pine Siskin and Bluebirds. Raptors: A fairly slow flight variable winds from SSE early and shifting N/NE by noon.
