Roger Stone and I = found a lifer for both of us- a female BLACK SCOTER*** on the Potomac = between Violette's and Riley's Locks in Montgomery County, MD. We = watched it for several minutes before it flew south along the river. =20 There were also several PURPLE FINCHES near the parking lots of both = Violette's and Riley's, and at least a couple of PINE SISKINS near the = parking lot at Riley's Lock. =20 Other highlights included:=20 - 2 BONAPARTE'S GULLS - 2 BALD EAGLES=20 - several YELLOW-BELLIED SAPSUCKERS - something that sounded like a PEWEE in the Riley's Lock parking lot, = which was also heard by two other birders. We didn't find the bird. = Any ideas? Starling maybe?=20 - BLUE-HEADED VIREO - 2 or 3 WINTER WRENS - BAY-BREASTED/BLACKPOLL WARBLER *** The 'Yellow Book' suggests that this bird should be reported to = Maryland Birdlife. Does anyone know to whom the report should be sent = and what other information, if any, needs to be contained in the report? = Thanks.
