Advance apologies again for any errors I make in passing this info along; with luck, the people involved will be able to post a better message. In the meantime, here's the latest (I didn't have pen and paper with me this time): Visiting Canadian birder Mike Mulligan arrived at the Sea Breeze around 9 a.m. for the kelp gull (after successfully seeing the common crane in IL yesterday), which he found and studied. Another birder (unnamed but actively sought!) joined him and they watched the yellow-billed loon 60 feet or 60 yards (sorry) off the Sea Breeze piers diving and swimming by a common loon. Mike was not particularly interested in the YBLO, but when Patty Craig arrived, he kindly showed it to her. It was a good distance off by then, swimming, I believe, upriver, but Patty saw an all yellow, upturned-held, bill. The loon didn't come in any closer while Patty was there, and when I arrived at12:45, it hadn't reappeared. Tyler and I are going to be gone all weekend, so I hope others will take up the cause and post updates, sightings, and non-sightings. Oh, and throw a net over it, so it's there when we return.
