Thanks to eagle-eyed Dave Webb, who pulled the bird out of a flock of 25,000 scaup, I added BLACK SCOTER, a female, to my year list this morning at Hoadley Road. The scaup were at least 98% Lessers, with a few Greaters evident. We also had 15 RING-NECKED DUCKS, 4 GREEN-WINGED TEAL, and 6 CANVASBACKS. And, despite the massive rafts, that's all. Oh, 16 Mute Swns. The scoter is number 242 for the year (with a bird or two to be resolved yet). Rick PS - There was a Northern Shrike in Lancaster County today (I know, its not Maryland), and they ahve been showing up in fab numbers in New York and PA the last week. Keep looking. Also, both crossbills are on the move and showing up at feeders just north of us. rick The right to be heard does not automatically include the right to be taken seriously. -- Hubert H.
