What was the eight woodpecker species you saw? Normally in MD this time of year you should be able
to find RHWP, RBWP, YBSA, DOWO, HAWO, NOFL, and PIWO. The only other woodpecker species I
am aware of reported in the last several hundred years in MD is Red-cockaded. I know of one report
from St. Mary's Co in recent (maybe 10 years ago) history. Patty Craig can provide details. Typo maybe.
If not, I am out the door and heading to Southern Maryland, which is a great place to bird.
Thanks.

George

Hi folks,

Last night there was one Saw-whet in the Jug Bay
nets, bringing us to 30 for the year. Night
before there were none, which supports the theory
that when winds are from the south, we're wasting
our time!

The passerine nets yielded a late Winter Wren on
Wed, which I think I forgot to post.

I hit Point Lookout briefly yesterday and was
rewarded with a Surf Scoter in pretty close, as
well as 2 fly-bys that I beleive were the same.

Had one Oldsquaw, one Dunlin (on the river side,
next to the small parking lot at the light) and
several gannets - all adults, far off. Several
small rafts of Buffleheads.

The Kelp Gull was there (had to show it to my
girlfriend) as were the Charles CO RHWO. For the
first time ever I had all 8 expected MD
woodpeckers in one day!

No pelicans, no Common Loons, very few
red-throated Loons.
