>Friday: Nov 12, Calvert Co. I finally have Buffleheads! So nice to start the day with a drive by the beach (at Scientists' Cliffs)where a dozen or so buffles are bobbing close in. Pt Lookout:STM The fishing boats were in close, so I saw no scoters close enough to id. Lots of bufflehead (40?) and a dozen common loons. Two horned grebe, 1 brown pelican, lots of double-crested cormorants (30?). One sharp-shinned hawk, 1 red-shouldered, 1 harrier (silhouette, no color). Walked the trail behind the Visitor's Center, and found it very birdy-- lots of squeaking brown-headed nuthatches (12?), tons of ruby-crowned kinglets (well, 15), yellow-rumps (50?), Carolina chickadees (6), winter wrens (3), and Downy woodpeckers. a flicker, but NO RHWO....... One Lincoln's Sparrow(!!) and a dozen swamp sparrows. NOV 13. AA CO Crossed signals on the meeting place for the AABC field trip -- looked at Parole for them until 8, and then drove on to Sandy Point. Here I saw 2 Am. Pipits and ran into another 'lost' AA birder, who promptly found 6 snow buntings in the grass near the beach. We shook hands and I took off home for Calvert Co (9:15 am), stoppping at North Beach. Parked between 7th and 9th street on the Bay, and had incredibly good views of 2 male and 12 female Black Scoters. When I checked out the birds by the RR Museum, I saw Charlie's Snow Goose with the tame birds, under the Rod and Reel Pier. The Snow Goose is trailing one wing awkwardly. sue ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com
