Maryland Ospreyites -

First, I thought you all would like to see this message from last week from
our "good" neighbor and Bowie Wild Bird Center owner, Malcom Doying--Malcom
lives about 2 miles from us as the crow (er, siskin) flies.

Had a flock (6) of pine siskins at the nyjer feeder at hone last Sunday. I
gave them directions to your house. Sounds like they made a wrong turn.

Second , here's another message from today from another "good" neighbor and
Anne Arundel County Bird Club member, Peter Hanan--also less than 2 miles
away ...

>UP SCALE COMMUNITY OF DAVIDSONVILLE, WITHOUT SISKINS, A BRIEF
>DESCRIPTION MIGHT HELP. THEY ARE SMALL STREAKED BIRDS JUST A LITTLE
>SMALLER THAN A GOLDFINCH WITH YELLOW WING BARS. SO CLOSE BUT SO FAR...

Come on guys, cease and desist !!! This really is not funny ... the joke
is over !!!! You've had your laugh. Enough!!! Save your energy.

By the way, since there was no point in staying home today to watch our
bird feeders ... Barbara and I tried for the Indiana Common Crane ... Well,
today was first time in two and a half weeks that it was not following
it's regular pattern. We dipped !!! What they don't tell you on the RBA
or Indiana Audubon web site is that someone breached etiquette and went
into the field today to try and see the bird when it was in swale. It
flushed and was not reliably relocated for the rest of the day. This
happened about 30 minutes before we got there. Now, if we had just not
stopped to eat breakfast ... DRATS! Also, today was the first day of
shotgun hunting season, so the cranes were much more skittish and patterns
changed. Also, some of the favorite fields had been plowed this
week. Nice place, anyway.

Maybe we should have stayed home to watch for some REAL siskins !!!

Phil
