Sunday Nov. 28, 1999
Lily Pons Rd. just east of Route 85, south side of road.
Wonderful, but brief, looks at a hatch year LOSH perched in a
small sapling at the stream. It was definitely a LOSH, mask
completly over bill, bill short and all black, rich gray plumage
on upper parts. The bird showed slight barring on the breast
and upper belly area consistent with HY birds. It was not banded.
I will try to post some photos of this bird tomorrow. I was
able to get the spotting scope, Celestron C5 ~40X, on it. I
took the photos through the scope with a digital camera.
The LOSH was scared off its perch by a Sharp-shinned hawk. I
could not tell where the LOSH went.
