Patty, After reading your story, I was reminded of a similar incident that I just read about. In a book called The Country Journal Book of Birding and Bird Attraction, Alan Pistorius, 1981, now available in reprint I believe, on page 91 he relates the same story. See if you can find this book at a library; I think you'll find it very enlightening. The gist of the story is that an owl imprint was found on a couples living room window on the day of the local CBC. By measuring the imprint the compiler (the author) was able to determine it to be a Saw-whet Owl, and by process of elimination and a bit of detective work, was able to convince Audubon officials that the owl must have hit the window sometime during the actual count hours, and it was accepted on that particular count, though it was neither seen nor heard! The details are in the book, and it was the 79th CBC and the Ferrisburg, Vermont count. Fascinating story... Rick Sussman Warblerick@aol.com
