I was at Pt Lookout from 11:45am to 1:00pm today hunting for my arche nemesis Ross' Gull. Near 1:00pm I found a large group of Bonaparte's Gulls (~200 birds) roughly due East of the Point. Unfortunately, the flock was well over a mile distant, not even visible to the naked eye (I found them as tiny specs scanning with 7x binoculars). Even with the scope maxed out at 60x, I was barely able to id the gulls. The good news is that the flock location seems to always be in flux. The bad part is that I ran out of time. Maybe someone else will be lucky. Bufflehead, Goldeneye, and Oldsquaw were present in large numbers as were scoters (well represented with all 3 species). I counted a dozen Gannetts and even found a lone Brown Pelican. The wind has picked up from the west is gusting 20-30mph now, so viewing conditions are a little more rugged. I left Tyler Bell and Patty Craig at the Point around 1pm. -still Ross' Gull-less Greg Miller (someday, I may tell the story about missing the Ross' Gull in Baltimore by 5 minutes on the *last* day it was seen...) __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
