The Crisfield Christmas Bird Count was held yesterday with the best
results in years. Highlights include:

     Red-throated Loon	       11       new count high
     Pied-billed Grebe         18       new count high
     Great-blue Heron         155       new count high
     Mute Swan                 10       new count high (yippie)
     Green-winged Teal        204       new count high
     Black Scoter             160       new count high
     Hooded Merganser         100       new count high
     Bald Eagle               128 !!    new count high (May have to adjust
this downward)
     Cooper's Hawk             10       new count high
     Merlin                     3       new count high
     Clapper Rail              49       new count high
     Lesser Yellowlegs         46       new count high
     Red-breasted Nuthatch     54       new count high
     American Robin          3282       new count high
     Orange-crowned Wabler      5 !!    new count high
     Le Conte's Sparrow         1       new count species - same location
near Irish Grove
     Saltmarsh Sharp-tailed Sp. 1       new count species
     Nelson's Sharp-tailed Sp.  3       new count high
     Common Redpoll             1       new count species

There were 3 Purple Finches but no Pine Siskins, crossbills, or Evening
Grosbeaks.
All told we had 128 species, the best we've had since 1977. A nice day with 22
participants produced the good results.
