Group -- I am just back from going my usual three CBCs in Worcester County. In the interest of time I will post the highlights from yesterday (12/29) in the Maryland sector of the Chincoteague count: Harris' Sparrow - Jim Stasz found this bird and ultimately the entire group was able to see it (myself, Marshall Iliff, Michael O'Brien, Louise Zemaitis). From the enterence to E. A. Vaughn WMA just S of Girdletree, go E on the dirt road to the gated parking area. Walk straight about 1/2 mile to you come to two telephone poles on the S side of the road. A hedgerow is between the poles. The bird was a the N ent of this hedgerow twice yesterday. If you keep going E on the road there is soon a second hedgrerow. The bird was at the N end of the hedgerow yesterday, and today I briefly saw in on the SE corner. LeConte's Sparrow -- Marshall and I flushed a LeConte's twice, with full credit to Marshall. From the Harris' spot, walk N across the field to a small pond. Go around this pond (keeping it on your left) and head W. You will see a large area of short grass with another distant pond. (Not the marsh!) The bird was in the short grass on the SE corner of the dry lake bed. Yellow-rumped (Audubon's Warbler) -- Michael and Louse had this bird on the southern section of EA Vaughn. From the parking area off of George's Island Landing Road (N of the intersection with Greenbackville Rd), take the dirt road N. At the first intersecton turn right (east). Take this road to its end at a small field with short green grass. They had the bird on the NE corner of the field in a flock of 100 Myrtles feeding in the field, when it was sunlit in the afternoon. OC CBC highlights I don't see posted are as follows: Eurasian Widgeon - 4 (3 AI, 1 Ocean Pines) Orange-crowned Warbler - 6 Clay-colored Sparrow in field W of the entrance to the OC Walmart (G. Miller) Red Crossbill -- Flock on Assateague in the circle of the state park road. Lapland Longspur - 9 on Assateague Sorry I can't give more details a the moment, but I just got back and other duty calls... Mark Hoffman
