Last week Ed Boyd observed a Peregrine at BWI with a wire "sticking out
of its back" at BWI. He mentioned it on the Osprey and I forwarded his
e-mail to a colleague, Jim Dayton from Earthspan. Earthspan is a not
for profit that uses satellites to track the movements of animals here
on spaceship on earth. Jim is intimately involved with efforts to track
Peregrines using satellite telemetry and this sounded like a bird that
he'd be familiar with. The other day I received his response to Ed and
I thought that the list might be interested in Jim's quick reply.

Thus it is pasted below.

Best regards all,

P.S. Places to go to learn more about the Peregrine tracking efforts in VA.

Ed,

The peregrine you saw was satellite tagged by Shawn Padgett, W&M Center
for Conservation Biology. This is the third year and they have tagged
about 50 Virginia fledglings. This bird was hacked at Hawksbill Mtn. VA,
and has been all over the east. Shawn has a track on the bird yesterday
going right through BWI. She spent last winter at JFK, likes those open
spaces I guess. Questions? Shawn's email I've been
satellite tagging peregrines since 1993.
