Greetings,

Today before going to the gym at work I took a few minutes to look for a
few birds specificaly loons, waterthrushes, & swallows. I scratched on the
waterthrush but I did find a few things worth reporting. Two Black Vultures
were seen soaring around the Edgewood Area of APG around noon. Later I
found that the Gunpowder River was loaded with Cormorants; however, due to
poor light condidtions, I found no loons. The Bush river, on the other
hand, did satisfy my quest to find a loon. I found at least one and maybe
two Common Loons there. There were also a few Bonaparte's Gulls flying
about. Tree Swallows were seen by the score and a lone Barn Swallow (my
first for the year) was seen on a wire near the base's sewage plant.
Additionally, 11 Wood Ducks rested on the upper reaches of the Bush River.
Lastly, a Killdeer was seen and heard flying over the airfield.

Good Birding,
Chris Starling.

PS: The "pond" (flooded wooded area) at the intersection of Rt. 40 and Rt.
24 held a lone Mute Swan.
