Hello Everyone, Sorry for the late post, but...... Pat Rose and I made a
quick trip to Point Lookout on Friday around 2:30PM and had the following:
Confirmed nesting success of the Bald Eagle pair at the Boat Launch Area. We
were able to view both adults perched on a nearby snag and in the nest was
at least one almost ready to fledge juvenile. This nest site was of some
concern as the nest was used last breeding season , however, a wind storm is
believed to have dumped the nestling(s) from the nest. The nest is sometimes
difficult to see but can be viewed with binoculars or scope from the ramp
area of the boat launch facility looking across the creek to the barrier
island which is bordered by the Potomac River and Lake Conoy. This pair has
been successful up until last year for fledging 2 chicks a year for at least
6 years. The causeway was very quiet with only about 50-60 Horned Grebes in
various stages of moult and 15-20 Bufflehead. After leaving the Park we
scanned quickly the farm fields around the area and the pasture across from
Trosbach's Fruit and Vegetable Stand was being used to graze cattle and
amongst the cows were 1 lone Cattle Egret which was my first of the year and
a life bird for Pat. We also saw many Orange/Clouded Sulphur and 1 female
Eastern Tiger Swallowtail butterflies. Good Birding, Marty Cribb and Pat
Rose, Callaway, St Mary's Co, Md
