Perhaps this is the same bird that has been seen over the last several years from shore or near shore in NC, NJ, NY, and RI. On one occasion there was a sighting of Yellow-nosed Albatross flying over the Garden State Parkway!

Subject: Yellow-nosed Albatross seen at Cape Hatteras Yesterday

Dear Carolinabirders,

A visiting birder from Ohio saw and photographed a Yellow-nosed
Albatross along the north beach between the old site of the Cape
Hatteras lighthouse and Cape Point proper yesterday afternoon around
3:00 PM. My efforts to relocate the bird this morning were
unsuccessful. The bird was last seen flying toward Diamond Shoals
yesterday after about 20 minutes of observation. There are plenty of
gannets in the area of varying ages, but I have seen a digital picture
of the bird and it is indeed a Yellow-nosed Albatross. The winds are
light today, but are forecast to increase tonight, so if the bird is
still anywhere close by it might be up and around more tomorrow. Or it
could be miles from here. If anyone comes looking, be sure to look all
around as the bird first appeared yesterday over the land!
