Terry Jordan and I went for a drive at lunch kind of scoping out her atlas block and 2 of mine. Our main goal was to see if we could find an Cattle Egrets. There are very few cattle left in southern Calvert and the habitat isn't good where there are any. Anyway, no egrets. We did find a singing GRASSHOPPER SPARROW at Cage and Mackall Rds. No meadowlarks there like there usually are. 3 COMMON YELLOWTHROATS were singing along the creek bed at Cage Farm and 3 BARN and one N. ROUGH-WINGED SWALLOWS were on the lines near the creek. There were more BASWs near the horse stables.

At the creek at the bottom of Ross Rd. were N. PARULA, HOODED, and BLACK&WHITE WARBLERS, and BLUE-GRAY GNATCATCHERS.

On the way back to the lab we stopped near the end of Mackall Rd. near St. Leonard's Creek next to a field that was clear cut a few years ago but now looks like good Prairie Warbler and Chat habitat. There was several Gnatcatchers buzzing as well as an OVENBIRD, a BROWN THRASHER, a couple of WHITE-EYED VIREOS and loads of A. GOLDFINCHES. And finally, at Patterson Park, were singing FIELD SPARROWS.

I'm looking forward to seeing if the overgrown clear cut yields anything this summer.
