Hi MD,
J.B. Churchill left a message Saturday to report Forster's Tern at Rocky Gap
SP and that he heard a Ring-necked Pheasant on Mason Road.
Sunday I found 3 Surf Scoters at Rocky Gap and reported those to J.B., who
soon arrived to add them to his 2004 list. That gives us 2 of the 3 scoters
for the year for the county, J.B. having previously found White-winged. Not
bad for an inland location. Also at R. Gap, a yellowlegs sp., Eastern
Kingbird, Yellow-rumps and a singing Ruby-crowned Kinglet.
We then went to Mason Road to look for the pheasant. J.B. again heard it
call and after a bit of searching we located it across Rt. 220 north. A
beautiful male. A county bird for me and I think for J.B. also. We also
found a western Palm Warbler and heard Turkey.
I continued alone to North Branch for both Green-winged and Blue-winged
Teal, about 6 each.
At Spring Gap on the C&O Canal, I had Louisiana Waterthrush and
Yellow-throated Warbler plus Gnatcatchers.
In Green Ridge SF, I added Pine Warbler, Prairie Warbler and lots of
Gnatcatchers. Broad-winged Hawks in several locations.
Several Mourning Cloak butterflies in Green Ridge.
Happy trails ....
