Evening all,

I spent much of my day off today down at Point Lookout and surrounding areas in search of birds and fish. The fishing didn't go so well but the birding was rather good for a chilly, windy day. My days tally was 43 species (a couple from the backyard) positively identified. It'd be closer to 50 or so if I was any good at ID'ing gulls and sparrows. Species of note for the day were several Life Birds, including: White-Eyed Vireos (several calling near Fort Lincoln), two pairs of Grey catbird (near Fort Lincoln), two Eastern Kingbirds and two or three Sora's (by call only) around the South Pond, and lastly, a number of Yellow-Breasted Chat on the trail back to Fort Lincoln (from the 30 min. parking lot). The Mute Swans have 6 little ones in the South Pond (oh goody) and the young Bald Eagle may have gotten the boot by Mom & Dad as I couldn't find him in the nest. Other recent birds include a Snowy Egret (Life) on the small sandbar at the College and our first Indigo Bunting of the year
(and of recent years) here in the yard. We also had an Orchard Oriole but I didn't get to see him so he doesn't count, yet. I'm off again tomorrow so wish me luck, hopefully it'll be a better day for raptors (for me at least).
