There is a wonderful new guide out, "Native Plants for Wildlife Habitat and
Conservation Planting," by the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service. It is about as
thorough and comprehensive as anything I have ever seen & lists what
wildlife is attracted to what plant, what its characteristics are, what
conditions it requires, where it is native to, and more. It is sponsored &
co-authored by several dif. groups, some of which are the Maryland Native
Plant Society, Adkins Arboretum, Chesapeake Bay Trust, Nature Conservancy
and so on and so on.
It does show a fair amount of plants suitable for shade. I live in the
woods & look forward to using it.
Also, I have never seen anything use my Nandinas. They provide winter color
& have pretty berries, but ...
