There was a nice turnout for today's HowCo Bird Club walk, part of
the Earth Day Extravaganza, icw the state-wide Atlas Awareness promotion
effort. The group did the main loop at Middle Patuxent Environmental Area
from 0830-1130. A friend and I met early to scout, starting at 0645.
A total of 45 species was noted, with two possible Atlas records
(forwarded to the responsble block leader). HIghlights were:

Wood Duck - 3
Osprey - 1
Cooper's Hawk - 2 in courtship
White-Eyed Vireo - 3-4
House Wren - 7-8
Ruby-Crowned Kinglet - 10-15, some singing
E. Bluebird - pair.
Wood Thrush - 7-8
Brown Thrasher - 1
Catbird - 1
Blue-Winged Warbler - 3 (stunning looks)
Nashville Warbler - 1 (good looks at a male)
Yellow-Rumped Warbler - abundant
Palm Warbler - 1-2 (yellow)
Black and White Warbler - 1 (excellent looks, a real beauty)
Ovenbird - 5
Louisiana Waterthrush - 2
Common Yellowthroat - 5-6
Scarlet Tanager - 1
