On the road to Sycamore Landing saw a Yellow-crowned Night Heron close to the road in flooded woodland about 3pm today. Wood Thrushes were singing, and a Barred Owl and Great-crested Flycatchers called. Many Yellow-rumps.

Near Riley's Lock on the C&O Canal, at the beginning of the old turning basin just above the lock, Blue-gray Gnatcatchers appeared to be just completing a nest. The male seemed to be doing most of the work.
