Fran and I were fortunate enough to get onto Mark Hoffman's Saturday morning "Warblermania" trip to the Nassawango Creek area of Worcester County Saturday morning. Warblers seen included COMMON YELLOWTHROAT, PROTHONOTARY WARBLER, PRAIRIE WARBLER, PINE WARBLER, LOUISIANA WATERTHRUSH, BLACK & WHITE WARBLER, NORTHERN PARULA, YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLER, KENTUCKY WARBLER, YELLOW-THROATED WARBLER, AMERICAN REDSTART, OVENBIRD, PALM WARBLER (Eastern yellow), WORM-EATING WARBLER, and BLUE-WINGED WARBLER.

Other good birds included WHITE-EYED VIREO, RED-EYED VIREO, YELLOW-THROATED VIREO, lots of BLUE-GRAY GNATCATCHERS involved in nest building, BALTIMORE ORIOLE, SCARLET TANAGER, RUBY-CROWNED KINGLET, GREAT CRESTED FLYCATCHER, and GRAY CATBIRD.

In the afternoon we went on Mark's Shorebird Explorer boat trip down by Skimmer Island, out the inlet almost the entrance, then up behind Assateague to the flats across from Eagle's Nest Campground. Lots of WILLETS, OSPREY, DOUBLE-CRESTED CORMORANTS, at least one GREAT CORMORANT, DUNLIN, and BLACK-BELLIED PLOVER. The bird of the day though was the flyover GULL-BILLED TERN, a bird that has been at the top of our "most-wanted in Maryland" list for a long, long time now.

Today is the last day of the Delmarva Birding Weekend, but we heartily recommend that you consider it for next year--good birds, great leaders, and some very interesting participants.

Best from Worcester County,
Norm & Fran Saunders
