Dear Barry:
The way I learned it, Chucks and Whips can be life birds by sound.

I never really have seen anything formal on counting lifers by sound.
Does anyone have the official word on that.
What about owls and Yellow Rail by sound for lifers? Is that ok?

Could someone please give us the official word.

                    good birding!!
