Hi Folks,

Bill Hubick and I spent all evening in northern Anne Arundel Co., mostly
exploring our new atlas blocks in the Curtis Bay Quadrangle, located east of
Glen Burnie. To say we were pleased with the results is an understatement.
We thought with the strong winds and occasional rain showers that our
evening would be a short one, but as we poked around different locations,
primarily along Marley Neck Blvd, we kept finding interesting birds.
Highlights were SOLITARY SANDPIPER, CHUCK-WILL'S WIDOW, VEERY, SWAINSON'S
THRUSH and BLUE GROSBEAK. A summary of sightings, all in vicinity of Marley
Neck Blvd, unless otherwise noted:

Great Egret--1 where B&A crosses Marley Creek
Green Heron--one at Halethorpe Pond #11, off of Nursery Rd., Linthicum
Solitary Sandpiper--4 in pond
Am. Woodcock--1 flushed
Great Horned Owl--1 calling (Stan only)
Barred Owl--pair dueting
Chuck-will's Widow--one calling for 20 minutes, where power lines cross
Marley Neck Blvd
Veery--one well viewed in woods
Swainson's Thrush--one well viewed in woods
Gray Catbird--lots
(Yellow) Palm Warbler--1 (Bill only)
Ovenbird--two singing, holding territories
Common Yellowthroat--2
Field Sparrow--half a dozen
Blue Grosbeak--1 along Furnace Rd., Pt. Pleasant

We both decided that we are going to really enjoy these newly acquired atlas
blocks.
