Hi Everyone,

Just returned from two days on the Eastern Shore. Here are the highlights.

Worcester - Several winter birds are still present. Over two hundred Brant are in the inlet and bay. Purple Sandpipers are along the jetty. Had several Gannets fly by at the inlet. Along Colbourne Mill road at the Wicomico county line I had several Acadian Flycatchers, I also had them in Wicomico County a short way up the road.

Somerset - At Rumbly Point, there was a Common Moorhen in the first flat as you enter the marsh. Along the Rail trail at the Sanctuary, there were plenty of Marsh Wrens singing and possibly one or two Sedge. I need to check my tapes. Other shorebirds include Short-billed Dowitchers, Dunlin, Willets and both yellowlegs. Only peep were Least. At Deal Island along Riley Roberts road there were two Black-necked Stilts. Near the Eastern Correctional Institute, I found two Grasshopper Sparrows.

Dorchester - At Blackwater refuge, in the new impoundment, were two Black-necked Stilts, also present were hundreds of yellowlegs and three short-billed Dowitchers. Common Moorhens were present along Elliot Island Road.

Caroline - At Tanyard, there were a lot of shorebirds present, mostly yellowlegs, but a few Pectorals. At Choptank, Least Terns have returned.

Great time to be on the shore with lots of good birds. I was surprised that I did not see a Brown Pelican.

Regards,

Dave Powell
