The Anne Arundel Bird Club is fortunate to have Dr. James Kushlan as its
featured speaker on Friday, May 7, 2004.  His presentation is entitled HERONS OF THE  WORLD AND THEIR CONSERVATION, and will include
slides of heron species from around the world, a discussion of heron biology, and up-to-date analyses of population data and conservation threats to herons.

The program will begin at 8 p.m. at  ARLINGTON ECHO OUTDOOR EDUCATION CENTER, 975 Indian Landing Road, Millersville, MD.  Directions are given below.

Dr. James Kushlan is a research associate at the Smithsonian Environmental Research Center, Edgewater, Maryland.  He served as Director of Patuxent Wildlife Research Center (Laurel, MD) for eight years and was Professor of Biology at the University of Mississippi and Texas A&M - Commerce.  Dr. Kushlan is globally recognized for his expertise on herons. With colleagues he has recently published the book "Heron Conservation" and has a forthcoming book "The Herons." He has been president of the Waterbird Society and is President-elect of the American Ornithologists' Union. He also serves on the boards of the American Bird Conservancy, Wetlands International, and Hawk Mountain Sanctuary.  

Directions:  Arlington Echo Outdoor Education Center is on Indian Landing Road off of Route 178 - Generals Highway.

From Baltimore: Take I-97 south to Exit 10A, Benfield Blvd. East.  Turn right at the light onto Veterans Highway.  Follow Veterans Highway south to a left  turn onto Rt. 178 south - Generals Highway.  Turn left at the stone church onto Indian Landing Road.  Continue to the Arlington Echo sign and turn right into the Center.

From Crofton:  Take Rt. 3 north to a right turn onto Millersville Road. Go through the intersection with Rt. 178 - Generals Highway and onto Indian Landing Road.  Continue to the Arlington Echo sign and turn right into the Center.
