And this really is a true story -- it's even been vetted by Snopes.com!
The pictures that didn't come through the listserv are there, too.

Snopes reports that the part about finding $4,000 is exaggerated, but
that the rest of the story is completely true, including the fact that
the birds were working as a team -- one bird would go up inside the
machine to jimmy coins loose, and the other birds would grab them and
fly off with them.
