Got a nice close look at a Veery yesterday behind my
Rockville office. This is my first for the season.
The light was on it, and it sure did look reddish. I was
actually looking for another thrush at the time; one
that was calling repeatedly but I couldn't locate, despite
crossing a stream on none-too-secure rocks in high-heeled
shoes which are probably still drying out. I believe this was
a Swainson's thrush; my sole auditory exposure to them having
been the Peterson and Stokes' CDs. It did have a sort of upward
spiral, but not enough notes to match the CDs well, if you
get my meaning.

The same day I saw a Broad-winged Hawk flying
(Rte. 29, Montgomery County) on the drive
into work. Pretty good luck with them this year.
