On my daily walk around the Sewell's Orchard pond (Columbia) this evening, I heard a Yellow Warbler, so I stopped to see if I could find him. As I moved in close to the tree was in, a Carolina Wren appeared on the branch just above my head and started to strut down very aggressively right at me -- his head down, looking right into my face, he stopped less than 3 feet from my shoulder. He stood and glared at me for a few seconds, then flew off to another nearby tree. Then within seconds, he was back -- coming at me again.
Of course, it was obvious to me by then that I was near his nesting site and he was trying to entice me into following him elsewhere. And not wanting to upset him anymore I moved on. But I was tempted to stay and play with him some more -- it was SO CUTE! And very brave of him, I must say.
I never spotted the Yellow Warbler, but he continued to sing very loudly.
I also noticed that our resident Canada Geese now have 3 babies. They are pretty big, not recent hatchlings, but this is the first time I have seen them with their parents (whom I see every night).
