A male Baltimore Oriole was singing from the treetops this morning across the street from our place in Glen Echo. 2nd straight morning one has been sighted, a first for us! Also had a Gray Catbird in the yard, a first of the year.

On Sycamore Island (near Lock 6, C & O Canal, 2 Spotted Sandpipers were along the western bank by the Potomac River. Dave Wiener was kind enough to invite us (my son accompanied me!) for an 8 am view of the Bald Eagles...no adults were seen, but the two eaglets are growing fast (maybe a third of the size of the adults). A Prothonotary Warbler sang as he moved through the trees on the island. Easter Phoebe was heard, as was what sounded like the dry trill of a Worm-eating Warbler. A Prairie Warbler sang from the hillside on the way down to the canal from the Clara Barton parking lot.

Wood Ducks (both male and female) were out on the river. At least 3 Great Blue Herons flew upstream. Several Double-crested Cormorants were spotted as well.

An absolutely beautiful, serene scene...thanks, Dave!

Good birding,
