Hello all - Did one of my pre-work walks this morning at Kenilworth Aquatic
Gardens, DC, from 8:45 a.m. to 9:40 a.m. The trees were literally singing,
and a birder with a bit more experience and more time could have seen a lot
more than reported below.
Highlights were:
Brown Thrasher (1)
*House Wren (1) flying between trees and its nest in an old piece of
machinery to the left just before you enter KAG proper
Solitary Sandpiper (1)
*Bobolink (medium-sized flock of maybe 25-35. Very noisy!!)
Cuckoo, sp. (almost certainly a yellow-billed, couldn't quite nail it)
*Eastern Kingbird (numerous, actively catching insects)
Downy Woodpecker
*Baltimore Oriole
*= year birds.
Other species noted were House Sparrow, Canada Goose, Cardinal, Red-Winged
Blackibird, Common Grackle. Some warblers were about, but hiding themselves
in the foliage.
Good birding!
