I stayed home today to plant my tomatoes, but I did manage to hear and
see the birds all around me. Of note: the chickadee protecting its
nest site and chasing away the red-headed woodpecker who got too close;
the red shouldered hawk flying high and calling and chasing a cooper's
hawk away; the house wren very busily emptying a nesting box ... I guess
in anticipation of moving in; and finally! ... the female Baltimore
Oriole showed up, probably in response to the continuous singing of the
male.
