Hi MD Birders,

While conducting the May Count in Allegany County today with Dave
Powell, Dave found a Black-bellied Plover while we were at North Branch.
It was way in the back beyond the tarps on a small dirt island. Also
both Yellowlegs, one Least Sandpiper and some Spotted Sandpipers. Dave
and Ray Kiddy and I also had a Black-billed Cuckoo and a Sora at Pinto
Marsh pre-dawn. We also heard a Great-horned Owl when we first arrived.
Dave and I had a singing Wilson's Warbler at North Branch, a Blackpoll
Warbler, a few Bobolinks and some resident Warbling Vireos, and Orchard
Orioles. Further up on the ridge tops there were a few warblers in
various places such as Prairie Warblers, Ceruleans, Pines, Worm-eatings,
Parulas, 1 Hooded, one or 2 singing Magnolias, a bunch of Redstarts,
Yellows, Common Yellowthroats, Myrtle. Surprisingly little else. We
did note a few Acadian Flycatchers along Kasekamp Road. The mute swan
(if that is truly what it is) was at the Cumberland Terminus. It still
appears to have a grayish-black bill which probably should have turned
red-orange to some degree by now ? so I don't know what to think of this
bird. I don't know if the Snow Goose was at Pinto Pond because it was
too foggy to see. I hope we had some others in the county today to fill
in some of our gaps.

Good Birding
