Hi all,
I treated myself to an early morning birthday walk along the Blue Mash trail
this morning, adding 5 new species to my BMNT list, bringing it to 107. The
bird of the day was WILLOW FLYCATCHER, with at least 3, perhaps 4 being seen
and heard. There were 2 in the vicinity of the small pond, singing from willows
and cedars, another nearby, and another (or one of the same) singing from the
willows next to the big pond inside the landfill itself. Other new birds for
me were GRASSHOPPER SPARROW singing from the tall unmowed grass inside the
landfill at the corner of the property, and Yellow-billed Cuckoos (3 seen and
heard), and a pair of Blackpoll Warblers in the small sycamore trees lining the
road on the way in. My other new find was Cedar Waxwings, which were plentiful
in the center of the "swamp".

Lots of Yellow Warblers, and a singing/displaying Chat near the trail coming
up to the parking lot. This park is really beautiful this time of year. Folks
should make an effort to explore it now before it turns really hot. 48
species in a short walk.
