The Purple Gallinule at Hughes Hollow was in view this morning from 0910 to 0920 in the first impoundment to the left. It was about 100 feet out from the dike where five observers were waiting. It first perched in the arrowhead leaves then walked about, sometimes disappearing from view. Eventually it walked out of sight behind a small shrubby island of vegetation.
I expect this bird may stay for quite a while, perhaps the whole summer or until it becomes bored with being alone. Given enough time it will show itself each day, but there is so much vegetation it can stay out of sight for lengthy periods of time. Persevere.
