Good point about stealth. The other day while doing some atlassing, Terry Jordan and I came across a pair of male Hooded Warblers. I know it's not quite safe dates on Hoodies but they are almost assuredly on territory. Anyway, they seemed fairly unconcerned with our presence and more interested in each other. Perhaps each was on the edge of their territories?

We ran across a third male that had me fooled. I didn't recognize the song at all. It wasn't even remotely like the weeta-weeta-weTEEoh. It continued this odd song even after we finally tracked it down.

Please don't play Hooded Warbler tape to attract the bird to see it. This
could put undue stress on the bird during nesting season. You would be
perceived as a competitor. Excessive tape playing might cause it to abandon
it nest territory. Be patient, and spissh. Also, go slowly toward the song
if the bird will not approach you. I have occasionally slowly walked up to
a male more interested in attracting a mate then me. Playing tape to
attract a nesting bird is unethical, inappropriate, and should not be done.

This advice goes for any nesting bird, especially Kentucky Warbler which is
also hard to see.

Good luck but you will see one if careful.

George
