I made a quick run to Tydings and Swan Harbor this morning hoping that the storm last night dropped some shorebirds. At Tydings, I found Dave Webb who had been there quite a while and was about to leave due to bad lighting and lack of shorebirds. Within a few minutes of meeting up, a Whimbrel flew circles around the area before settling on the flats. This has been my most wanted county bird for several years now. Dave left soon after, and I didn't stay too much longer. The Whimbrel was still sitting on the flats at 7:30am.

Swan Harbor is always interesting and worth the visit. Shorebirds today were several Leasts, 2 Greater Yellowlegs, and singles of Semi Plover, Spotted, Solitary, and Snipe. The snipe was interesting in that it was winnowing for a short time. I haven't heard that in 5 years and was really neat. Also of interest were "singing" Pied-billed Grebe, male Blue-winged Teal (I hope the female is on nest), and a single Sora that I was able to snap a picture of before it flew.
