Hi all I two requests for more information on the Grasshopper Sparrow
Nest .I will not say any more about the location as this is a research farm
and it is in someones resaerch plot. Not much else to tell except that it
is in a No Till corn field has some clumps of dead vegtation one of
which has the grasshopper sparrow nest and is next to a row of corn .
Corn plants are about 7 inches tall. Nest most likely made when
grass was growing and after corn got planted . will try to keep a check on
this at a distance and report back. hope it is a successfull nest .This
is only the Second Grasshopper Sparrow nest I have ever seen . The First
about 5 years ago on the same farm differant field with warm season
grasses planted in rows to collect seed from. This nest found while
mowing alleys between rows , but nest in row of taller grass not mowed
off . I belevie it was late June or July it also had eggs But latter
check had newly hatched young and a check about 10 days after held a
empty nest. hope this helps Happy birding And atlasing
