Well, this is really strange--we have no Brood X in Calvert County but this
morning my 84 year-old father called me over to our deck where he was
sitting and pointed down. There was an ant dragging the unmistakable
orange-veined wing of a periodical cicada across the deck floor. I looked
around for the rest of it but no luck. Could it have flown here from PG
county? We've had Fowler's Toads calling in the area all week and at first
I mistook the distant call as that of the cicadas but it's definitely the
toads making all the racket. The closest I've seen the cicadas is in Upper
Marlboro just before you cross the Patuxent River heading south which is a
good 12 miles from where I live.
