Hello, birders.

While birding in a closed part of Caledon Natural
Area, King George County, Va., on Saturday, I saw a
BLACK TERN flying downriver (Charles Co., Md. waters),
about halfway in between the Va. and Md. shore. It
never hesitated or paused to feed in the few minutes
that I had it in my sight. Its manner of flight
suggested to me that this bird had a destination in
mind, headed for points far away.

DICKCISSELS have been seen in the Rappahannock River
Valley NWR, including 4 today in a short walk by
myself, Tom Pendleton and Mike Smith. We were in the
Wilna Tract in Richmond County, scheduled to be opened
to the public soon. I understand that 6 of this
species were seen here recently.

I was participating in the VSO foray in Virginia's
Northern Neck.
