We're doing some re-landscaping and I've heeled in several hundred Cardinal
Flower (Lobelia cardinalis) plants for which I have no space left.
Hummingbirds love these late summer blooming plants and the plants
themselves are very attractive. So if anyone would like to take a drive to
beautiful Calvert County, I'd be happy to give them away. Here's a link to
more information on the plant:
http://plants.usda.gov/cgi_bin/plant_profile.cgi?symbol=LOCA2. Please
contact me off-list for directions.

Hummingbirds have gotten very active in the garden over the last week. The
lone male has multiplied to two or three and I've seen several females too.
More feeders have been put out to quell the territorial disputes.

I've not been able to get out much (at all) this past week due to family
visiting but last week on my last salamander check at Flag Ponds I found
the following shorebirds along the beach:

Spotted Sandpipers - 3
Semipalmated Sandpipers - 24
Pectoral Sandpiper - 2
Least Sandpiper - 1

The Pied-billed Grebes are still on Duncan's Pond and I'm anxiously
watching for signs of breeding. The best sighting however was a pair of
copulating Yellow-billed Cuckoos who were so engrossed in their "activity"
that I was able to snap a quick photo which I've made Photo of the Week at
