Can't remember whether the string about who's eating cicadas was on MD-Osprey or VA-bird...
This morning about 10:30 I watched a prothonotary warbler catching cicadas in flight, breaking them up on the towpath, and literally shoving the large pieces into the mouth of a fledgling sitting on a branch about 10 feet over my head. This was about 1/4 mile upstream of MP 6 on the C&O Canal towpath.
A little earlier, a fellow birder pointed out an adult bald eagle sitting in a tree on the VA side of the river. This was just where the danger signs are posted before the Little Falls dam.
