Today Woody Martin and I checked the two hawk nests I found in my central P.G.
County atlas block. The Cooper's nest looks like it still has young in it
based on the fresh whitewash on the ground. Unfortunately, one of the young
was on the ground, dead. Not ready to fledge yet, with some wing feathers
grown in, others at the pinfeather stage, probably dead 2-3 days.

The other nest is now confirmed as a Broad-wing Hawk nest. We saw one bird on
the nest and a second (male?) land on the nest with food -- mouse or vole or
some such. He left again still holding the food (spooked by our presence?).

The purple martin box at Lake Artemesia has three active nests. One batch of
chicks hatched last week; two other nests had eggs as of last weekend.
