The YCNH nest on Windsor Mill Rd. that's still relatively easy
to see has at least one and probably two young. Friday evening,
walking on the neighborhood trail, we saw a YCNH fly in the direction
of the nesting colony. Some time later, approaching the tree from
the road, we saw a heron fly in. A heron which may well have been
the same one flew off just as we arrived. We were able to see one
small head backlit against the evening sky rise above the nest and
open and close its beak below the feet of an immobile adult, perched
just above. We also saw a moving lump that we interpreted as being
a 2nd nestling. We went to check the site this morning. The one adult
heron was posed virtually as the night before. Paul glimpsed brief
movement in the nest, but I missed it.
