Hi all,

I've been lurking reading other posts for some time
now... I really enjoy MDOSPREY. Having something I
feel I should share has gotten me past my shyness in
posting.

There was an earlier post this spring about Pileated
Woodpecker nests. I was fortunate to have a pair
select a dead tree in the woods in front of our house.
(Very considerate of them as we needed them for the
Atlas block!)

I successfully digiscoped some pictures (not bad for
a first-timer) and have posted three of them to the
following web site: http://webspace4me.net/~troopinfo/

When I first saw the nest hole (after noticing parent
activity in the area but not seeing either parent on
the tree) I thought it might be too round to belong to
Pileateds. The first photo shows the nest hole
without birds and, like the earlier reference, the
hole is quite round but the lower lip has been chipped
away. It is not the oval shape I'd been expecting for
Pileateds. The other 2 photos show young and the
female parent.

Let me know if there is difficulty in viewing the
pictures.
