There has been a bobwhite calling in the area of Sumantown and Carroll Boyer Roads near Jefferson, MD. One was spotted along the road by Dave Brinker and myself several weeks ago. I have called one into the yard several times.

Also have meadowlarks and grasshopper sparrows. And new homes being built across the street where grasshopper sparrows once nested.

sadly this is no dream.

This morning, I stopped at the intersection of Cage and Mackall Roads near Patterson Park in Calvert county. This has been a holdout area for N. Bobwhites in the county (that I know of). I wasn't disappointed. Within a minute or so I heard at least 3 Bobwhites calling from different directions. In years past, I've not heard any but in the last couple of years, they seem to be rebounding. Hope they keep coming on strong. One of the local landowners says he has seen small coveys in this same area as well as on his property, each in a separate atlas block which I cover. Now if I could just see some babies....

This area is also good for E. Meadowlark, Grasshopper Sparrow and Horned Larks all of which I have confirmed for Broomes Island CE.

While atlasing, I heard a Bob-white call (once) in an open grassy
field along Morgan Run in central Carroll County last Friday. I
put it down as a possible Bob-white or European Starling (the
latter were seen nearby, later).

I guess I need to check again, carefully.
