Dear all

Looks like another decent breeding season for the Double-crested Cormorants nesting on an island in the Potomac opposite mile marker 8 on the C&O Canal. Using a scope I could see at least 8 nests today (6/25), of which 4 had young birds - total of latter around 10, since one nest seemed to have 3 youngsters in it. Since its nearly the end of June, the fledglings are actually quite large now. On a couple of nests it took me a while to realize it was the hatch year birds sitting there, not adults. I think there are more occupied nests, but the vegetation is blocking the view of some of these.

Regards
